In this module on the innovation tactics, Jonathon moves on to tell the story of Brian Dennis, VP of Customer Service at Kohl's. Brian wanted to get support and funding for a $25M investment into some new technology, but faced an uphill battle as other business priorities were in the way. Logically, his idea made sense, but he needed to be creative in how he set it up to be presented. Using the Sponsor pathway to adoption, the story goes that Brian looked around and identified the specific executives who would benefit the most from his idea. He approached each of them, specifically calling out how his idea would help their goals. Beyond gaining internal sponsorship, the key to Brian's success story here was his willingness to concede credit. You have to ask yourself: am I in this for the idea or for the credit?
Workshop Question:
Do you care more about the ideas or the credit?
